About TheEVAuthority — Real EV Ownership, Honest Reviews

About TheEVAuthority

Real EV ownership. Honest reviews. Gear that actually works.

⚡ Who’s Behind This Site: I’m Darrell — U.S. Army veteran (31V Signal), multi-Tesla owner, and a background spanning technology, computer engineering, healthcare, and business. I built TheEVAuthority because I couldn’t find one honest, experience-backed resource for EV accessories and gear. So I made it.

I didn’t come to electric vehicles as a trend. I came as someone who had already spent years in technology and healthcare, someone who researches deeply before buying anything — and once I went electric, I never looked back.

I’ve owned multiple Teslas, spent thousands of hours behind the wheel on Full Self-Driving, and logged well over 50,000 electric miles. Along the way, I’ve bought and tested a lot of gear — some of it excellent, most of it mediocre, and plenty of it a waste of money. That experience is what this site is built on.

Why I Built TheEVAuthority

When I got my first Tesla, I dove into every forum, subreddit, and YouTube channel I could find. Most of what I encountered was either outdated, sponsored beyond recognition, or written by people who had never actually owned the car they were reviewing.

As someone with a technical background, that bothered me. I’m wired to verify, test, and validate before recommending. So I started keeping notes — what accessories held up, which chargers were worth the price, what I’d do differently buying my second and third EV. TheEVAuthority is where those notes became a real resource for other EV owners.

✓ My Promise to You: Every recommendation on this site is based on real ownership experience, actual hands-on testing, or deep technical research. I only recommend products I would buy myself — or have already bought.

Not a One-Person Echo Chamber

TheEVAuthority is written and tested by me — but it isn’t created in a vacuum. I lean on a circle of fellow EV-owner friends who drive everything from Teslas to other EV brands, and many of the guides here started as their real questions. The Audi e-tron buyer’s guide exists because a friend was shopping for one and asked me what to look for. When a friend’s ownership experience shapes an article, you’ll see it credited right in the piece.

Military Service — U.S. Army

🏼 U.S. Army Veteran — MOS 31V (Signal Support Systems Specialist)
Before EVs, before entrepreneurship, I served in the United States Army. My MOS was 31V — Signal Support Systems Specialist — responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining communications and signal equipment in the field. It’s where I learned to troubleshoot complex systems under pressure, work as part of a team, and never cut corners when precision matters.

That military mindset carries directly into how I run TheEVAuthority. I research before I recommend. I test before I publish. And I hold myself to a standard of accuracy that most online review sites simply don’t bother with.

My Background Beyond EVs

Outside of electric vehicles, my career has spanned technology, computer engineering, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. That cross-disciplinary background shapes how I write about EVs: I approach charging infrastructure the way an engineer would, evaluate product claims the way a clinician would, and think about value the way a business owner would.

I’m also deeply embedded in EV ownership communities — the forums, the owner groups, the early-adopter conversations. When something changes in the Tesla ecosystem, I hear about it from fellow owners before I read it in the press.
